IRIS Africa

Responsible generative AI for health and agriculture in Africa — and the ventures that will take it to market.

The project

Innovation shaped by local needs.

IRIS Africa (Intelligent and Responsible Innovation with GenAI for Societal impact) is a three-year Horizon Europe project bringing together eleven European and African partners.

It develops generative-AI tools that turn complex data into clear, culturally adapted guidance — for people living with type 1 diabetes in Ghana, and for agro-pastoralists managing livestock risk and insurance in Kenya — and it builds the local ecosystem of start-ups and SMEs that can adopt, integrate and scale these tools through Living Labs in Ghana, Kenya and Uganda.

Kili’s contribution

From pilots to products.

Kili Ventures leads exploitation, twinning and investment readiness in IRIS Africa (Task 6.3, Work Package 6).

We help turn the project’s pilots into investable products and services: we run design-thinking sprints with the Living Lab teams, match African start-ups with European peers for twinning and exchanges, coach teams to investor-grade standards, and organise the project’s brokerage event bringing together VCs, angels and corporate innovators.

We also contribute to capacity building and to mapping the start-up and investment ecosystem in Kenya, Ghana and Uganda, and we lead the project’s Exploitation, Twinning & Exchange Report.
